5-Day Craftsmanship Course Description
DAY 1 - SAFETY / ENVIRONMENTAL
Introduction to polyurethane roofing; Respiratory protection; Review of products used; MSDS sheets; Review of equipment; Prevention of chemical exposure to the public; Spills and chemical release; Proper disposal of container/waste; Overview of commercial roof systems.
DAY 2 - POLYURETHANE APPLICATION
Surface preparation/primers; Hot/cold weather applications; High wind application/portable spray booth; Internal drain and flashing details; Equipment adjustments/pattern.
DAY 3 - POLYURETHANE APPLICATION, CONTINUED
Moisture effects/causes of blisters; Catalyzing methods and reasons; Relationship of density/compression/yield; Methods to apply smooth, uniform foam; Relationships of heat/pressure/mix to quality.
DAY 4 - MEMBRANES AND SEALANTS
Cold/hot weather application; Pinholes, blisters, adhesion and curing rates; Film thickness/uniform application; Overspray hazards; Equipment adjustment/maintenance; Flashing details/granule application; Sealants and vapor barriers; Types of coatings.
DAY 5 - RECOAT / MAINTENANCE
When to recoat and why; Maintenance methods and suggested schedule; Scarfing existing foam roofs; Surface preparation of existing coatings; Blister repair; How to find leaks in a foam roof; How to avoid litigation.
